1. You don’t have to use all the time.
At a normal comedy club open mic you have up to three minutes. You can do two. You can do one. Don’t feel obligated to do it all. Do what you had planned then curtsey or bow out. If you’re riffing in the moment, cool, but don’t try to stretch out your time. I did that and it resulted in me talking about my shoes. Don’t be like me. Wrap it up.
And that’s it. Those are five things you should do at your first open mic to succeed. Of course, there is one thing more important than any of the others and that’s this: Do it. And after you’re done, pat yourself on the back, you just did something amazing.
